Thoughts: The authenticity of YouTube Beauty Vloggers

I've often questioned this but WWD took the words right out of my mouth. When i first started watching YouTube beauty vloggers i was literally still in my teen years ( 4-5 years ago ) and loved it i though i found a new outlet it was all i watched. But now me being 22 years of age i question a lot. A few years back YouTube beauty vloggers i felt like were doing things genuinely for there viewers and people that admire them but its a new day in age and the beauty vloggers we know and love are partnering with brands, becoming brand ambassadors, and getting paid for product reviews.

It's becoming hard to weed out the money makers and the people that genuinely do this for there viewers and subscribers. I watched a video a few weeks back about a new mascara that's been all over instagram and YouTube beauty vlogger Shaaanxo Her Channel was requested to do a review on it and was even offered money to do so and i was like i knew it! She didn't except the money but purchased the product on here own and some if not all i'm sure have been offered money to review products and give reviews on it even if it's the worst product in the world. I'm sure some have accepted especially if the money is right. WWD pointed out in their article that the first vlogger they reached out to for an interview wanted money i repeat money in the about $5,000 for the interview Which was ridiculous.

I know Jayme Cyk  did the best thing in not mentioning the vloggers name but i think she should have only because the whole part of the article was about how genuine these vloggers are and the authenticity of there content. But i guess there probably would of been a big issue and the part that make's me fringe is the fact that these people have management since when did people that make videos on YouTube need a manger and an assistant any ways then she got a nasty email from her representation which i think was so unprofessional and the vlogger unfollowed WWD off twitter. Wow really how childish of you.

One other person they interview said it best:

“Content, point of view and talent will never go away. The format to which it comes to life will evolve and change, but [this business] is not about being a beauty blogger or vlogger, its about galvanizing an audience and connecting with them in a very authentic, truthful way.”
